My third cent on Women Reservation

Women Reservation, the most talked and avoided issue in current context.
Talked about, because everyone has a say. Avoided, because no one is sure they are right or wrong.
Same with me, I was thinking if am against it or in favor. There is always an urge in me to take a side rather than sit on sidelines and complain.

Let me have a categorical look at it. First question is what is that we want to achieve by this ? Second question is ,Is reservation best way to do it ? Third Will it actually achieve what it intends to ?

I will start upside down. Will it actually achieve what it intends to . Rabri Devi a housewife, who was only seen in Laluji’s holi videos , suddenly became a CM when Lalu was sent to jail . We all know she was pseudo CM controlled by her husband. This is exactly we fear will happen to all those 33% MPs and MLAs . Just take a step further, did you guys notice the change in her in all these years. All the confidence, thought, control and oration which has came on after that. Contrast which has come from the typical ghonghat clad housewife to a confident speaker and leader. It took time and still it is long away but whatever has happened is phenomenal in terms of paradigm shift. This paradigm shift is what I am talking about.

The reservation was first piloted in gram panchayats and almost all the lady sarpanchs were pseudo to their husbands and other males in family. But in last 10 years since this has been implemented atleast 20-30% have shunned the ghonghats and came to stand on panchyat and taken up cause. This is paradigm shift.

Is reservation the best way to do it? I am fundamentally opposed to any reservation which is based on caste, creed, religion, gender. I am in for reservation based on financial status and availability of opportunities and access to resources. In this case I beg to differ with myself. In India, if you want something to change , you have to mandate it . This reservation will be rotational in nature that is in every three years every constituency will get a chance to be lead by a female. In this case the so called netaji who is nurturing the constituency will have to keep his female counterpart in limelight throughout if he wants to keep the constituency hold. Also in the places where the candidature is closely fought for will require the male counterparts to include a prominent female at prominent place , which will make their fight to move on easier. In other words if any female is capable of being a leader this reservation will act as a catalyst to their chances.

But , this alone will not help , if we want to empower our women , we need to atleast make the education entirely free for them, atleast subsidized at all levels. Secondly, secondly we need to make them employable at higher levels. All this will gross to women empowerment.

What do we want to achieve by this ? We want to create a society of equals by empowering those who have been suppressed for ages. That is it .

Why am I supporting this?

1. Women are less corrupt (okay Mayawati is also a women but still they are less corrupt)
2. Women are more considerate and humane (yes , I remember Phoolan devi)
3. I belive in this
4. My wife will read this
